The village
Sperlonga is situated in a panoramic location on a rocky promontory overlooking the sea, about halfway between Rome and Naples.
The name derives from the numerous caves, called “spelonche” in Italian, which open up in the rock along this stretch of coast.
Along the coastline, there are indeed stretches of fine white sand beaches, as well as cliffs and marvelous coves accessible only by boat.
